From Supply Chain to Value Chain: Increase Your Food Business Resiliency

15 Feb 2023
10:00am - 4:30pm PST

Vancouver food businesses and Vancouver's food supply chain are invited to join Martin Gooch from Value Chain Management International and Keith Renfrey from CSH Projects to participate in this free, in-person workshop on February 15 at Vancouver's Library Square Conference Centre from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Food waste has been in the news as an environmental and social concern. What has gained less attention is that controlling the causes of food waste can be an opportunity for businesses to improve their financial performance and competitiveness.

These opportunities come from reducing costs, using inputs more efficiently and competitive positioning which can increase sales and consumers’ willingness to pay for products they see as having better value.

Value Chain Management International has learned that businesses can improve financial performance by more than 10 percent by using simple practices that lead to improved processes. At the workshop you will receive a toolkit, including a workbook with easy-to-follow steps. The tools contained in this workbook and kit are intended to be applied to address basic process problems that can be solved in a relatively short time span without capital investment, delivering measurable results.

You will leave the workshop with a clearer understanding of:

  1. how your business can profit from reducing food loss and waste, and
  2. how you can improve your processes to secure the financial benefits described above.

This workshop is co-hosted by the City of Vancouver, the Vancouver Economic Commission’s Economic Transformation Lab and Emily Carr University, and is funded through the generosity of the Carbon Neutral Cities Alliance External and Mitacs as part of the Circular Food Innovation Lab (CFIL).
