Executive Roundtable: Current State of the Food & Beverage Industry

In response to feedback received through our Executive Roundtable Series, BC Food & Beverage has taken the ambitious step to conduct a study to assess the current state of the BC food and beverage industry (State of the Industry Study) to support our government advocacy efforts. 

The scope of the State of the Industry Study will entail: 

• Assessing the current state of the BC food and beverage industry, including a review of key industry factors, such as the regulatory environment, profit margins, input costs, cost and availability of land/manufacturing space, and labour. 
• Identifying the key challenges that hinder the competitiveness of the BC food and beverage industry. 
• Identifying potential solutions that can effectively address the key challenges faced by the BC food and beverage industry while supporting its competitiveness. 

With a provincial election likely on the horizon, we feel this work is critical to make recommendations in advance of the election to ensure our industry’s collective voice is heard.  To support this study, we are seeking food and beverage manufacturers’ perspectives on the historical and current performance of your operations, particularly from the perspectives of sales, costs, and profitability, as well as suggestions on potential actions that can be taken to enhance the overall competitiveness of the BC food and beverage industry. 

At our December 6th Executive Roundtable, we will explore the preliminary findings from the industry survey that will be going out within the next 2 weeks and delve into key industry challenges and discuss recommendations that will help strategize for an election and contribute to the final report, which will be completed by the end of January 2024.   

Also, when the survey is released, we urge you participate in it, but just as importantly to encourage others in the sector to participate as well – the more businesses who respond, the stronger our voice in advocating for our industry.
